Ego quelling practice

The ego (ahamkara), is the unwatched mind and the creator of the "I" and “me”.

It is my understanding that the ego is the aspect of the mind that banishes us to the victim seat. In this seat, we are convinced that everything that happens in our lives (be it good or bad) is a personal affront.

The journey of the yogi is to become less of a slave to the ego (the small self) and more attuned with the Higher, Divine Self. By doing this, we overcome the idea of "otherness" and instead realise "oneness". The yogi transcends “planet me”and realises that we are all lovingly connected as part of a transcendent, greater whole.

In this practice we use pranayama and movement to first purify and balance our Manipura or solar plexus chakra (energy centre) which is said to be the energetic seat of the ego. And then through mantra call out to Lord Shiva, the God of destruction and new beginnings, to burn away our attachments to the I-making small self.

The prayer in this practice is:

Shiva Shiva Shiva Shambo
Mahadeva Shambo
Om Namah Shivaya

Om Shanti xx
